How to set up your computer:

These steps are required and may be done before you arrive:

1. Initiate your U of M Internet account.
2. Download anti-virus software (one copy is provided at no charge to each U of M student).

Do these steps once you have arrived in your residence hall room:

1. Disable File and Printer Sharing (Windows only). Note: This step can be done before you arrive, but doing so may affect your home networking.
2. Connect your computer to the activated etherjack (usually orange colored) in the wall, using an Ethernet cable.
3. Start your computer and launch a web browser.
4. Your web browser will re-direct to an automatic network registration page. Log in with your Internet ID and password and follow the directions. Subscribe to ResNet by accepting the user agreement.
